Batik is a multi-step form of fabric dyeing that has been practiced for centuries. Batik dots and patterns are formed by creating a “resist” on the fabric, primarily using wax. Once wax has been applied to the fabric, it is then dyed. The word batik originates from the Japanese word “tik” which means “to dot.” This ancient form of cloth decorating can be seen on clothing, purses, scarves, wall hangings and so much more. You will have your choice of making either making a tote bag or wall hanging! Please RSVP to Rachel Williams at 330-835-0027 by Tuesday, May 8 to ensure we will have enough supplies!
